Positive thoughts can be mis-leading because you can mistake them for who you are

Positive thoughts can be mis-leading and it is not because when you think favourably about yourself or your situation, you are inflating the ‘truth’, on the contrary. It’s because positive thoughts cannot do you justice. They do not have the breadth nor the depth to define your greatness.  Positive thoughts are not even the thin slice of who you are, they can only point to the greatness that you already are.

The Buddha in the Shurangama Sutra uses the analogy of the finger pointing to the moon. If you focus on the finger  you will miss seeing the moon or mistake the finger for the gloriousness to which it points to.

A positive thought is like the pointing finger. It’s showing you the way, but the positive thought, just like the finger is not the magnificence to which it points to.

You are truly more powerful than any positive thought you can think. You are the space in which that positive thought happens.

Let there be space in your mind.
